Getting to Haines

Fly Alaska Airlines to Juneau AK.
Delta Airlines and other partners may also offer connections into Juneau.
There are three options to travel from Juneau to Haines, AK. All require prebooking and you are strongly encouraged to book your arrival into Juneau based on the availability of your transport from Juneau to Haines. Please, check these schedules prior to booking your flight to Juneau.

    1. Alaska SeaPlanes– this is a 30-45 min flight on a small fixed wing aircraft.
Check website for current pricing and schedule.
    2. Alaska Marine Highway – this is a 4.5 hr. large ferry that takes you on the only remaining marine highway in the world. It is a beautiful cruise up the Lynn Canal (which is actually a fjord). Check website for pricing and schedule. A boat typically runs one time per day in the summer, leaving early in the morning so you will likely need to spend the night in Juneau.
    3. Alaska Fjordlines – this is a catamaran water taxi and whale watching tour. If there is space you can often take the afternoon return from Juneau to Haines. This business is owned and operated by a local Haines family. They will feed, educate, and entertain you. Please check website for current pricing and schedule.

If you’re planning to stay the night in Juneau you can.
A) Stay at hotel near the airport with free shuttle from airport and to ferry. Airport hotels are about a 20- minute taxi ride to downtown Juneau. Some hotels also offer transportation to and from downtown.
B) Stay downtown with fancier hotels but no shuttle service to airport or ferry.

Hotels in Juneau – just a few suggestions plenty of others can be found online
1. Best Western Country Lane Inn (or Best Western Grandma’s Feather Bed)
Close to airport. Free shuttle service to and from Airport and shuttle to and from Ferry Terminal, sometime downtown You can find a decent price on booking sites. The downside is that it’s not downtown and there isn’t much to do around there. For the thrifty-minded traveler, this is a good option, and a $2 bus trip each way will get you into town for the evening.
2. Silverbow Inn
A boutique hotel in the middle of Juneau. Close to hiking trails, restaurants and shops. But the taxi from the airport and to the ferry can be pricey.. If you’re adventurous, you could take the bus into town and walk to the Silverbow from the bus stop. It’s not far. But there is no bus service to the Ferry Terminal.
3. Juneau Hostel
Also downtown. The savings on the room here might make the price for taxi worth it. It’s a bit of a longer walk from the bus station to the Hostel, but that’s also possible. Our friends who have stayed here have good experiences.
